Nostalgia

A lot is on my mind tonight. This letter amounts to only a fraction.

The following was written on January 4th, 2010. I wrote it - and I quite like the person I was when it was written.

To the Non-Believers,

I know what you’re probably thinking. Times have changed, we are in a new era of modernism and the absence of God. He can’t possibly exist in our world today. For if He was here, wouldn’t He solve our problems? Wouldn’t He step in and save us from destroying ourselves?

And what about the media? It’s all sex, drugs, and scandal, you say. If this has become acceptable, surely God cannot exist. Because if He did, where’s the flood? Where’s Noah with his arc to destroy us for falling away?

I implore you to sit back and think for a moment. Open your minds (and your hearts, if you are able), to what I am about to tell you.

Have you ever thought that, perhaps, God has faith in us?

Yes, yes, we’ve all heard of faith in God. That is the basis of religion. Having faith in a higher power, one we cannot see, but simply feel. But for that relationship, that faith, to be reciprocal… if you understand this, you may come to understand many things.

Think of all the things you wish your parents did for you. Near the top of the list, you’d probably put trust. Because in an ideal world, with perfect people, our parents would trust us. They’d leave for a weekend and expect us not to throw wild, disastrous parties. They’d let us spend thousands of dollars on a trip around the world, and allow us to go alone, without supervision.

Yes, perhaps this is extreme. And what parent would do something like that? Because, after all, what parent is perfect?

God.

God is perfect.

Even when we don’t deserve it, He trusts us. He would let us go on that round-the-world trip, with the faith that we would behave appropriately, stay safe, and not spend our money atrociously on unnecessaries.

Why? Well, we will never know for sure. We cannot begin to conceive his perfectness, his undying love and faith in each one of us.

He has faith that we will search for him. Amid all the turmoil, the demoralization of the media, the falling away of religion, we will find Him.

Do we need another flood to erase the unworthy sinners, to start anew? Perhaps. But will God send another? Most likely not. Because He has faith in us. Because He wants each of us to seek Him, to find His word and to read it. If we read of Noah, of what God is capable of, then we need only to change ourselves, to understand the mistakes of the past, which are now recurring, and to fix them. God does not want to repeat the past, and neither should we.

Therefore, have faith. And love Him. Invite him into your lives, because surely, this is the only way to fix what has become of our world.

Love your neighbor. Help him. And the effect will spiral out, out of control, until every human being has been touched. Every one of us.

God created this planet. He has helped us greatly along the way. And, because of His faith in us, He has turned great power over to us.

Now, it is our turn to save ourselves.

Your humble informant,
Gina Marie
